BSA Architect Joe Sagen to Present at 2025 AIA Healthcare Design Symposium

BSA is proud to announce that Joe Sagen, RA, RID, Senior Architect and Architectural Lead, will present at the 2025 AIA Healthcare Design Symposium alongside esteemed collaborators from Indiana University Health and Clemson University.

Joe will join Dr. Anjali Joseph, a national leader in evidence-based healthcare design, and Christi Cornelius, Director of Operations for IU Health’s Adult Academic Health Center, to share insights from a multi-phase, simulation-based evaluation process used to prototype patient rooms for IU Health’s new downtown Indianapolis hospital.

Session Title:
Evidence-Based Hospital Design Process: Engaging Clinical Teams in Multi-Stage Simulation to Refine a Patient Room Prototype

This case study explores how mock-ups and simulation scenarios—from routine care to emergencies—were used to capture meaningful clinical feedback and drive decision-making throughout the design process. The session will highlight how this collaborative, evidence-based approach resulted in a patient room layout that supports both staff performance and patient well-being—insights that are applicable to hospitals nationwide.

Joe’s leadership in this project reflects BSA’s commitment to creating healing environments where design is informed by real-world user input, clinical efficiency, and compassionate care.
