Project Overview

The Moffitt Cancer Center at SouthShore is a 75,000-square-foot outpatient facility on a 9-acre campus in Ruskin, Florida. The center expands access to high-quality cancer care as part of Florida’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center, serving patients across southern Hillsborough County. The facility provides a full range of outpatient services, including cancer screenings, diagnostic imaging, medical oncology clinics, radiation therapy, and infusion services.

Engineering Scope

BSA provided interdisciplinary engineering services for this project, delivering the full design and construction administration of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and telecommunications systems. The full engineering scope included:

  • Mechanical engineering: HVAC systems, chillers, air handling units, ductwork, fans, and water treatment.
  • Electrical engineering: Power distribution, emergency power, interior and exterior lighting, surge and lightning protection, grounding, and commissioning support.
  • Plumbing engineering: Domestic water distribution, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, medical gas piping, and high-purity water systems.
  • Fire protection engineering: Wet-pipe and preaction sprinklers, fire pumps, and standpipes.
  • Finally, Telecommunications engineering: Structured cabling and communication infrastructure to support clinical, administrative, and security systems.

As a result, by coordinating multiple disciplines early in the process, BSA delivered systems that are efficient, reliable, and code-compliant. Our work supports the facility’s operations and enhances patient comfort, as well as upholds the expectations of NCI-Designated Cancer Centers.
