Shaping the Future of Healthcare Education at Purdue University

Purdue University is ushering in a new era of academic excellence with the construction of a transformative healthcare education building: the Nursing and Pharmacy Education Building (NPEB). This 186,000-gross-square-foot facility will be the new home for the School of Nursing and the College of Pharmacy. It unifies two of Purdue’s vital health science programs under one innovative roof.

Designed by BSA and Ayers Saint Gross to address the nation’s critical demand for skilled healthcare professionals, the building will include:

  • Four floors of advanced clinical simulation labs
  • Large active-learning classrooms
  • Collaborative study areas
  • Cutting-edge research spaces.

In fact, nearly 60 percent of the facility is dedicated to instruction and student support. These interactive learning environments empower future nurses and pharmacists through immersive, hands-on education.

Looking Ahead

More than a home for two colleges, this healthcare education building will serve as a dynamic campus-wide resource. With centrally scheduled classrooms and inclusive common spaces, it opens the doors to interdisciplinary engagement and learning for all students. Its flexible design fosters collaboration across healthcare disciplines, encouraging faculty and students to work together on complex challenges in public health, mental health, and health equity.

In addition to its robust academic footprint, the building will include 26,800 GSF of animal research space in the lower level and 7,000 GSF of interstitial space. Upon completion, it will replace aging facilities to create a cohesive and modern environment for health sciences.

Finally, the project is targeting LEED Silver certification, reinforcing Purdue’s commitment to sustainable design and construction.

With construction now underway, the Nursing and Pharmacy Education Building is set to become a cornerstone of innovation, equity, and collaboration in healthcare education—preparing the next generation of professionals to make a lasting impact.
